Don't feed leftovers to tortoises.
Penang : They come with good intentions
for feeding the tortoises in the Temple Liberation Pond,
but what they do not know is that they are actually contaminating the tortoises' home.
It is a pond filled with a lot of tortoises
and these people usually bring alone their leftover food in buckets from home and throw them into the pond.
As there were too many food and the tortoises cannot finish them,
the food will be left to rot and foul up the pond.
The caretaker of the tortoises has to change the water in the pond every two days.
There were also tissues and sweet wrappers found in the pond.
The pond was also once the target of thieves who stole the tortoises for the cooking pot but this problem had been solved after the perimeter was fenced up.
It would be the best to just feed them with the bread crumbs and water convulvus sold there because these come in smaller portions.
My opinion
Rep : Give the tortoises a better home
Too much leftover foods were fed to the tortoises and also rubbish were thrown inside causing their home to be contaminated.
I agree that we should just feed them with the bread crumbs and water convulvus sold there because they come in smaller portions,
and of course we should not even throw rubbish into the pond as rubbish is meant to be thrown in to the dustbin!
The temple management committee should restrict the amount of food fed to the tortoise.
One more thing is that, judging by the picture shown in the newspaper, the pond was too crowded with tortoises, it would be better if they can extend or build a new pond.
